A battery snow blower can look compact until its discharge chute, upper controls, lighting bar, battery housing, and folding handle are included. Those parts create several high and low points that determine drainage and installation clearance. A custom cordless snow blower cover should match one dry storage position while keeping the lower edge away from meltwater, floor salt, and wheels.

Consult the owner’s manual first. Switch the machine off, remove safety keys, allow the auger to stop, clear snow with approved tools, and follow the manufacturer’s battery removal and charging instructions. Never charge a battery, troubleshoot the unit, or run the blower beneath a cover. Store only after every surface is clean, dry, and at a safe temperature.

Select One Handle and Chute Position

Choose whether the handle stays upright, folds forward, or collapses into a transport setting, then lock it exactly as instructed. Center or rotate the chute to one recorded direction and set the deflector angle. Photograph the configuration from four sides. A pattern built for a folded handle may not clear an upright console, while a turned chute can pull the fabric sideways and expose the opposite edge.

Measure the Main Housing

Note side plates, skid shoes, scraper edges, decorative guards, and wheel projections. Avoid reaching into the intake or placing the tape near an auger; use safe exterior reference points with the key and battery removed as directed.

Map the Chute and Deflector

Measure chute height, outside diameter or width, offset from the housing center, deflector projection, and rotation-handle envelope. Look for sharp molded edges or cable guides that can catch fabric. The top should slope away from the chute rather than form a basin behind it. Do not use the cover to hold the chute in position, and never pull a tight seam across a control cable or rotation mechanism.

Document the Battery Bay

Record the battery-door profile, latches, indicators, cooling openings, and whether batteries remain installed during approved storage. Follow the battery manufacturer’s temperature, moisture, and charging requirements. A fabric cover is not a battery thermal enclosure and should not block a charger or trap heat. If the power pack is removed indoors, measure the blower in that normal stored condition and keep the empty bay closed as directed.

Include Controls, Lights, and Cables

Measure the upper console, bail, switches, lights, cable loops, and any accessory mounts without squeezing them inward. Folding joints and cable bends need enough clearance for the cover to pass over them without changing alignment. Identify a safe lifting path and a front label. Remove the cover completely before unfolding the handle, installing a battery, moving controls, or performing a pre-use inspection.

Keep the Hem Above Meltwater

Measure floor clearance around the front housing, wheels, and rear frame. Garages and sheds often collect melting snow and deicing residue, so a floor-length hem can wick contaminated water. Set the lower edge above the wet zone while still shielding painted and plastic surfaces. Position closures away from tires and walking paths, and do not tie the machine to a wall, vehicle, or unrelated object to resist wind.

Inspect the First Fit After a Thaw

Install the cover only on a dry machine and check the chute, deflector, console, battery door, handle joints, lights, auger-housing corners, wheels, and hem. After a normal freeze-thaw cycle, uncover and inspect for condensation or wicked moisture. Dry everything before reinstalling. Adjust the routine if the machine is frequently brought indoors with packed snow; the cover should never hide melting snow or delay required cleaning.

Prepare for Off-Season Storage

At the end of winter, follow the manufacturer’s maintenance and battery-storage instructions before the long covered period. Inspect the scraper, skids, wheels, fasteners, cables, chute, and housing finish, and address corrosion or damage instead of hiding it. Clean and dry the cover before folding. Recheck the fit when replacement batteries, taller skids, an upgraded light, or a service repair changes the machine profile.
