Their published dimensions are a helpful start, but they may not describe the exact stored setup. Power down, disconnect, and allow equipment to cool before covering it. Never operate a speaker while enclosed unless the manufacturer has expressly approved a purpose-built live-use enclosure. Identify the Speaker and Storage Mode
Record the exact cabinet model, but verify every dimension on the physical unit. Decide whether it will be stored upright, on its side, on a pole, on a subwoofer, or on a wheel board. Include yokes, fly hardware, rain hoods, and adapters that stay installed. One consistent storage mode produces a cleaner pattern and reduces strain during daily setup.
Measure the Cabinet at Its Widest Points
Record overall height, width, and depth, then check whether the front grille, rear amplifier plate, feet, or molded sides extend beyond the main box. Tapered cabinets often have different front and rear widths. Measure those stations separately and photograph the side profile. Add only practical fit allowance; excessive space can make an elevated cover flap in wind.
Map Handles, Controls, and Connector Panels

Even if these areas remain closed beneath the cover, knowing their locations helps avoid tight seams over vulnerable controls and lets you specify a carrying flap where staff genuinely need one.
Decide Whether the Stand Stays Covered
A cabinet-only cover ends near the pole socket and is usually easier to handle. A cover that continues down a stand needs the pole height, collar diameter, tripod spread, and finished lower drop. Keep fabric and cords away from adjustment knobs and legs. For public spaces, preserve clear floor visibility and never create a loose skirt that guests can catch with a foot.
Plan Safe Cable Handling
Disconnect power and signal cables unless the approved storage procedure says otherwise. If a secured cable remains attached, measure the connector projection, bend radius, and exit direction. A reinforced closure can reduce pressure at the cable path, but it must not imply that covered powered operation is acceptable. Coil loose leads separately so they do not distort the cover or sit in water.
Protect Corners Without Making Removal Difficult
Cabinet corners and grille edges can abrade fabric during frequent handling. Note sharp hardware and consider reinforced panels at predictable contact points. A full-length rear zipper or hook-and-loop flap may simplify installation around stands or brackets. Keep closures away from the grille face and choose pulls that crew members can use with gloves in low light.
Manage Heat and Moisture Between Events
Allow amplifiers and power supplies to cool, wipe away rain or condensation, and inspect connectors before covering. A fitted cover should not trap a wet cabinet after an event. If equipment must remain outdoors, follow the manufacturer’s temperature, ventilation, and weather instructions. Covers reduce direct exposure; they do not turn indoor-rated electronics into permanently outdoor-rated equipment.
Choose a Fabric for Crew Handling

Test the Crew Workflow Before Event Day
Practice installation and removal with the staff who handle the equipment.
